Article XVII, Section 6(a) of the International Constitution provides that; “When a member becomes unemployed in the jurisdiction of the Local Union, he/she shall be issued an honorable withdrawal card upon their request” The key phrase is “upon their request” It is the member’s obligation to initiate the process by requesting that a withdrawal card be issued. It is neither the steward’s obligation nor the Business Agent’s job to issue the withdrawal card. A withdrawal card stops your dues obligation so it in your best interest to request one from you local's office when needed.
Members should request a card when they are laid-off, leave the craft or will be out of work for a lengthy period of time. You only have 90 days to request a card after the last dues payment made.
IT IS THE MEMBERS RESPONSIBILITY TO CONTACT THE UNION FOR A CARD, NO ONE ELSE'S.
Failure to get a card in these situations will result in a suspension from the union and will make the member responsible for a re initiation fee plus any back dues accrued during this time should they ever return to the Teamsters.
Any questions or concerns about Withdrawal should be directed to Jennifer at 215-591-1000 or Jen@teamsters463.org
